Snow at Papaw's

On the evening of the 26th we arrived to our road about 4:00 PM. We had made it through the almost 9 inches of snow our area had received, and we only had our own gravel road left standing between us and the cabin. Problem is, our road begins as an uphill, with a slight curve to it, and our poor car just didn't want to make it. Josh gave it three good chances, but the deep snow just wouldn't let us get enough traction.

So, we backed up, headed back down the road and went to another area of our property. We own over 9 acres (family land), and there is probably a 150 feet difference in elevation (think of about a roughly 20% grade hill) between the top of our property and the bottom. Josh's Papaw lives down that way, and his aunts also live on their own land in adjacent properties. We parked the car, and Josh's Papaw took us up the ridge (a 4-wheel drive only road) on his tractor. It was quite fun. We were being pelted with snow from the branches that were hanging in our way. We made it home, sans car and some of the less necessary items. We returned for them today. There's something much more reassuring about leaving our car with family instead of on the side of the road somewhere.

I rest in the same assurance tonight as my car sits at Papaw's. Josh and I both made our way out today. He went shopping; I went to work. He made it home, and I couldn't make it up the same hill. So, my car is at Papaw's, and I got another fun tractor ride. lol. Here's praying that the roads start clearing.

When we were at Papaw's, I took pictures. You're looking at part of Josh's aunts' land, plus maybe some of our own. We have the privilege of having some creek on our property.

This is one of Papaw's hunting dogs. His name is Hank. He's less than a year old, but he is HUGE. He's also friendly (and slightly stupid according to Papaw. Haha).

Just look at that face. Awwwww.
I'll try to post pictures tomorrow of what our view from the cabin looked like on the 27th. :)

Snow in Cleveland

We were at Josh's parents for Christmas Day & Boxing Day so I got experience snow in Cleveland and at home. Here's a few pictures from Cleveland.

Mamaw's stairs. Josh & his dad having snowball fight.

Me stopping to pose from mine & Josh's snowball fight.
Me tossing snow into the air to make a snow shower. If you look closely you can see the snow in the air.
Josh posing for me.

Josh tossing snowballs at me. Those things hurt!

I'll post some Copperhill photos later. So many pictures, so little time! Feel free to look at my previous posts. I'm breaking them up so that I don't have a post with 30 pictures, lol.

"You'll shoot your eye out!"

Here's just a sampling of the icicles we've had up here. I'll post more snow pictures later today.

Of course, the first two are just me & Josh goofing off. :)

Christmas festivities

I have sooooo many pictures. I'll be posting several times over the next few days to try to attempt to share some of them with you all. First, I'll share our Christmas celebrations. My family came up on the 23rd. We ate great food, fellowshipped, opened gifts, and watched some DVDS. Later, we set up the tripod and took some pictures.

Josh & I are a couple of big kids (and hams). ;)

My lovely parents.
We got a great family picture. I love my sister, she just doesn't like for her picture to be posted online...So I got creative. Haha.

On the 24th we headed over to friends of Josh's family. We ate more good food, played Guesstures, and played Dirty Santa.
The beautiful Christianna, now a month old.

Fellowship & Laughter

On the 25th, we spend time with Josh's family. It had snowed (pictures of that to come later).
Christianna was all bundled up!
Here's an ornament of my Hubby from when he was younger.

(from left) Josh's mom, Mamaw, and Christianna with Josh's dad.

Christianna's dad, Jud, is to the far right.

Me, with my niece. :)

Jenny, with her daughter.

Merry Christmas from me & Josh to you!

I'm dreaming of a white posting...

I'm snapping a few more pictures of the 9 inches or so of snow we've received here at the cabin, and then I'll post some pictures of the great Christmas festivities & snow we've had the past few days.

I hope you've had a Merry Christmas! :)

Snow day!

I am enjoying my first official snow day out from school. It feels so nice for it to be this year and not last. Last year I would have been the fretting director of a childcare worrying about if we should close and which teachers wouldn't be able to make it in because I would inevitably have to stay open. This year, I'm the teacher, who didn't have to make the call to close the schools. Of course, where I live, it's pretty easy to see that we couldn't have school today.

I do feel quite bad that I had to call in to the daycare I've been working at in the afternoons. Cleveland didn't get near the amount of snow that we did up here (although it was enough to close Cleveland City & Bradley County schools). My afternoon job is still open, and I am "snowed in" at the house with my wonderful hubby (who also can't navigate the roads). Based on personal measurements we think we've gotten about five inches of snow up here. There are snow drifts of almost 8 - 10 inches due to the very, very windy weather. As Paul Barys said, we've had a "Yankee" snow. It's very powdery, and the more it's driven on it will compact into ice. Dangerous conditions for us since we live five miles from treated roads, we have front wheel drive, and there are plenty of hills and sweeping curves to waylay us. I was supposed to bring my car in for repairs as well, but that will have to wait until tomorrow. I don't want to put any additional dents in my poor beat up car.

Here's what it looked like at our house about a week ago.

Here's what it looked like this morning.

See how windy it is? My snow angel. One of our snow drifts. It has really piled up behind the house. The start of our icicles. I made a video with my phone. You can hear the wind in it, and see it whipping up the powdery snow.

I hope everyone has a great day! I'm home doing housework and finishing up a few things for school. Hopefully I'll get to go back to normal tomorrow.
