With only two closets in our house--one in each bedroom, we definitely need more storage space in our cabin, and Josh has wanted for years to take a hollow area in our wall and turn it into a closet. He took it upon himself to do so after Christmas. Little did he know that we would both be suffering from the flu. He managed to push along anyway.
As you may be able to tell, it is in the foyer between our bathroom and bedroom. The only electrical work was moving an outlet from one side of the wall to the other. This was stage one after he took the boards off the wall to expose the hole.
My helping hand was keeping the splinters and saw dust vacuumed up so that it did not injure us or the baby. I also had several times where Benjamin and I played in his bedroom with the door shut in order to keep him away from dangerous things.
This is the beginning of the inside of the closet.
And...done!
The bottom part is for the vacuum cleaner, steam mop, etc. Or in this case...us!
Benjamin loved his platform for the short time it was empty. He would get inside and dance.
The only thing left to do is put a door on it. Josh needs to pick up a few things to finish it up. It has been so cold, and he had a cyst removed from his chest (and had stitches for 2 weeks), so it is on the back burner for a little while longer.
We are gladly using it now to store all of our cleaning stuff, paper towels, etc.
